Book Review: Influencer - Building your personal brand in the age of social media.
I am flying through my book reading list this year, I have to say I am pretty proud of myself, I don’t think I have been on a roll like this for a few years. Anyway, this post is not about my bragging of finally getting a little discipline in my life but about the Book Influencer by Brittany Hennessy.
I picked up this book and added it to my list about the beginning of last year, although I don’t really want to be an influencer as such, I am trying to learn more about personal branding and how it is linked to having a business in general and having to be present online and thought this would be a great place to start.
I have to say that this book, although now over 5 years old which makes it a dinosaur in social media time, still has great foundations and is definitely worth a read if you are looking at having any kind of social media presence whether it be as an influencer, brand owner or if you will have a product that you will have to show your face for.
Brittany goes into not only great detail for all the parts of the behind the scenes that make up the business management side of being an influencer when it comes to managing content, but also exactly who you will need to have in your corner at the right times and different stages of your growth as well as how the courtship of brands should go if you want to be taken seriously. She provides advice on the different stages of growth and followers and what you need to be doing and thinking about in each level.
This book also provides delicious little juicy gossip sections (with no name drops of course) about influencers and how they had made mistakes or lost out on deals due to poor behavior, unprofessional demands or responses as well as interviewing real world influencers on their experiences and advice in the industry.
I would highly recommend this book, I have definitely highlighted different sections for future reference.
